The town’s hazard mitigation planning team is updating its section of a five-year regional hazard mitigation plan and has met with the Merrimack Valley Planning Commission . Valid from 2008 to February 2013, the regional plan details actions for more than a dozen local communities to reduce risks to public safety and property from floods, storms, wildfire, and other natural hazards. Individual communities prepared their sections with the help of the planning commission. By updating the plan every five years in accordance with guidelines from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Newbury and other communities are eligible to receive various hazard mitigation grants through the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency.end of story marker
