Anthony Fields, Burlington’s longtime planning director, resigned his post effective Sept. 28 to take the same position in Billerica. Fields was tapped by Billerica Town Manager John C. Curran to replace Peter Kennedy, who retired as planning director in August. At its Oct. 4 meeting, Burlington’s Planning Board named the town’s senior planner, Kristin Kassner, to serve as interim planning director while it searches for Fields’ successor. Fields had worked for the town of Burlington since 1991, first as assistant planner and since 1994 as planning director. A Billerica resident, Fields said he was prompted to pursue the Billerica job because working in his hometown would allow him to spend more time with his 8-year-old daughter. He said the job was also attractive because “Billerica is pursuing a variety of initiatives and has some particular needs that are well-suited to my skill set.” Fields, who began his new job on Oct. 1, said, “I’m really looking forward to identifying opportunities to achieve the goals that have been set here.”end of story marker
