BOSTON (AP) — Authorities say a Waltham man who tried to board an MBTA subway trolley without paying by sneaking through the gates closely behind another passenger made a critical mistake.
The man he followed was a plainclothes transit police officer.
An MBTA spokesman says 57-year-old Michael Cammisaro tried to ‘‘piggyback’’ on Officer Luis Feliciano in the Park Street Station in downtown Boston on Wednesday afternoon.
When Feliciano turned to ask what was going on, the impatient Cammisaro allegedly shoved Feliciano and said ‘‘move, move, move.’’
The men scuffled, Feliciano took Cammisaro to the ground and handcuffed him, all the time identifying himself as a police officer.
Cammisaro is due in court Thursday to face charges including assault and battery charge.
First-time fare evaders face a $50 fine.
