Medford’s first-ever Green Awards were presented to 21 businesses and residents last month during the Harvest Your Energy Festival. A bamboo plaque was presented to 11 businesses and 10 residents taking part in the city’s Green Energy Program. The initiative encourages Medford businesses and residents to reduce energy costs, conserve water, increase recycling, and use renewable energy sources, among other actions. Mayor Michael J. McGlynn, who introduced the program on Earth Day in April, presented the awards along with Tufts University president Anthony Monaco, Fred Laskey, chairman of the city’s energy committee, and Jodie Coyne, executive director of the Medford Chamber of Commerce. More information about the awards can be found at www.medford.org/greenawards.
