John Stagnone, chairman of the Board of Selectmen and president of Stoughton Media Access Corp., is forming the State Theatre Board to try to obtain money to renovate the downtown theater. Several other attempts to renovate the theater, which was known as the Stoughton Cinema Pub when it closed in 2007, have fallen short. Stagnone is seeking individuals with skills in grant writing, business planning and development, architecture, construction, marketing and fund-raising. Stagnone has pointed to the success of downtown community theaters in Norwood and Foxborough as examples of what can be achieved. Stoughton’s theater needs accessible bathrooms, seating, and other repairs to bring it up to code. Those interested in joining the effort can send an e-mail to Stagnone at firstname.lastname@example.org or write to him at 500 Highland St., Stoughton, MA 02072.
