Watertown Savings Bank is collecting supplies in its nine lobby locations for a local organization that for 10 years has been sending care packages to deployed US troops. Operation American Soldier was started by local realtors John and Wendy Rocca, who have three children who have served in the military, and now ships out more than 35,000 pounds of items every year. The operation collects items such as candy, nonperishable snacks, canned food, packaged meals, clothes, coffee, toiletries, and DVDs, and uses the Marine Corps League’s Private Charles J. Shutt Detachment, at 215 Mt. Auburn St., as a staging area to package the contributions. To see a detailed list of the items being collected, visit www.operationamericansoldier.com.
