WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — Fireworks are returning to Worcester’s New Year’s Eve celebrations for the first time since 2009 thanks to a local soft drink maker.
First Night Worcester announced Monday that Polar Beverages has donated $10,000 to help fund a fireworks display visible throughout the city that will ring in 2013.
Fireworks were stopped in 2009 because of budget constraints.
Polar has contributed more than $35,000 over three years to help fund First Night activities
Howard McGinn, executive director of the nonprofit group, tells The Telegram & Gazette (http://bit.ly/RRp60V ) he’s ‘‘so grateful’’ for the support.
First Night Worcester is still seeking donations to fund this year’s activities.
