Westwood High School principal Sean Bevan and social studies teacher Jonas Sherr traveled to Washington, D.C., last week for ceremonies celebrating the school’s designation as a Blue Ribbon School, one of 38 in the country receiving “exemplary performing” status. The award, the highest honor a school can receive from the US Department of Education, was announced by US Education Secretary Arne Duncan in September. When the list was announced, Superintendent of Schools John Antonucci said the success of the high school students reflected their experience in the entire Westwood school system. At the time, Antonucci also lauded former principal Emily Parks, now the assistant superintendent, who he said took the school to new heights during her time as its leader.
