The town library recently announced that the fee for returning its museum passes late has been increased from $2 to $10. The library offers passes that provide free or discounted admission to museums and other attractions, sponsored by the Friends of the Burlington Public Library. Officials said that some passes are not being returned on time, which denies those who are signed up next the opportunity to use them. The increase in the late fee is designed to help curb that practice. Library officials also said the increase brings the fee inline with what is charged by libraries in surrounding communities. Meanwhile, with the holiday season approaching, the library is accepting donations of food items in lieu of late book fines. All food collected is donated to the Burlington Community Food Pantry, which is run by the nonprofit People Helping People.
