The local chapter of the Salvation Army is looking for volunteers to ring the bell at its donation kettle, set up for the holiday season at the Halifax Stop & Shop. Last year, the Salvation Army’s first at that location, netted $5,000. Kettle drive coordinator Christine Tompkins hopes to have the bell ringing this season from 9 a .m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Volunteers can sign up for as little as two hours or as many as they want, Tompkins said. “It’s also a good way for kids in school to earn community service hours,” she said. The kettle is set up in the store’s foyer, in a heated area where grocery carts are stored. “We also have folding chairs for added comfort,” Tomkins said. Volunteers can sign up by calling the Halifax Council on Aging at 781-293-7313 or Tompkins at 781-361-5778.
