Hingham police are encouraging residents to sign an online pledge to be or have a designated driver this holiday season. Applicants who sign the pledge and take a quick survey will be entered to win a free, four-hour spin in an 8- to 10-passenger limousine. “Our goal is to have at least 500 people take the pledge to either use or be a designated driver this holiday season,” said Sergeant Steven Dearth of the Hingham police. Dearth noted that a designated driver does not drink the entire night, and isn’t someone who drives home at the end of the night because he or she is the “most sober.” Dearth hopes the online aspect of the pledge spreads the message to a larger audience.
