Stoughton Police this week posted an online message thanking residents and businesses for their support in their recent drive for victims of Hurricane Sandy in Staten Island, N.Y. Donations of nonperishable foods, water, and clothing were cut off after five days because the two box trucks and the van donated to carry the supplies and clothing to New York were filled to the brim. “We filled a tractor trailer for the victims of Katrina, so I wasn’t surprised this time around either,” said Lieutenant Robert Devine, the department’s executive officer. “Our officers who took the supplies to New York stayed to hand out the donations to families, and they had a chance to see the devastation. The town’s always had a big heart and they proved it again.” The drive began on Nov. 5, and the officers took the donations to New York on Nov. 11.
