WILBRAHAM, Mass. (AP) — A general contractor that’s done work for the federal government, the state, and Fenway Park, has become the first western Massachusetts company to join a federal program aimed at preventing the hiring of illegal immigrants.

U.S. Immigration of Customs Enforcement announced Tuesday that Wilbraham-based Classic Site Solutions Inc. has joined the IMAGE program.

Under the voluntary program — ICE Mutual Agreement between Government and Employers — companies are given education and training in proper hiring procedures, fraudulent document detection and the use of employment screening tools. Employers also undergo an audit to ensure current employees are authorized to work in the U.S.

The chief of ICE’s Boston office says program participation is good for business, the community and the nation.

The company’s president called it a step in better serving clients.end of story marker
