SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — One man is dead and another man is being treated at the hospital following what police say appears to be a gang and drug-related robbery attempt and shooting in Springfield.
Police responded to reports of gunfire at a public housing complex just before 7 p.m. Sunday.
Both victims were taken to Baystate Medical Center.
Nineteen-year-old Keough Collins was pronounced dead in the emergency room with a gunshot wound to the head.
A 31-year-old man was hit in the leg.
The name of the surviving victim was not released.
The slaying remains under investigation. It was the city’s 12th homicide of the year.
