State crime lab scandal
Annie Dookhin (pictured), the chemist at the center of the state drug lab scandal was arrested in late September by State Police. Dookhin faces more than 20 years in prison on charges of obstruction of justice and falsifying her academic record. Dookhin allegedly told law enforcement officials that she mixed drug samples to create positive results, increased weight samples, and violated evidence handling protocols. An attorney appointed to review the impact of the case says more than 1,000 people are in prisons and jails due to the mishandled evidence.
