Volunteers sought for intergenerational program

The Council on Aging and the School Department are seeking volunteers age 55 and over for an intergenerational program they are organizing. Through Bridges Together, older adults and students from Burlington’s elementary schools will meet in an effort to promote mutual respect, understanding, and friendship between generations. The program will consist of six weekly one-hour sessions at both the Francis Wyman and Pine Glen elementary schools, starting Jan. 7. Volunteers are asked to commit to attending all six sessions at one of the two schools. The Wyman meetings will be held on Tuesdays at 1 p.m. and the Pine Glen meetings on Thursdays at 8:45 a.m. Training for volunteers will be held at the library on Jan. 3. Bridges Together was developed by Andrea Fonte Weaver about 20 years ago in Sudbury, and has since been implemented in schools and community centers in other Massachusetts communities.
