GLOUCESTER, Mass. (AP) — A Gloucester woman faces several charges after a fatal weekend crash in the city.

Authorities said 52-year-old Rebecca Jacques (JAKES) will be arraigned on Monday in Gloucester District Court. She was behind the wheel of a car that slammed into another vehicle on Essex Avenue Saturday night.

A passenger in the second car, 52-year-old Mary Lipman of Ipswich, was pronounced dead at a hospital after the crash.

The Essex District Attorney’s office says Jacques is charged with negligent operation of a motor vehicle, operating after suspension and a marked lane violation.

State and local police are continuing to investigate and prosecutors say more charges are possible.

The victim was in a car driven by an off-duty state police officer.
