The Friends of the John Curtis Free Library presented library trustees with a check for $5,000 at the Dec. 14 staff and volunteer appreciation night. Friends President Tracy Marchetti said the trustees can use the money however they see fit. In addition to the donation, the Friends provide $2,000 for cultural passes each year as well as $4,500 for adult programs and $4,500 for children's programs, Marchetti said. The group raises the money with book and bake sales, raffle baskets, and donations from memberships. The organization's biggest moneymaker is the year-round book sale room it oversees at the library. "That alone raises close to $3,500 each year," Marchetti said. end of story marker
