As the end of the holiday season approaches, organizers of the Burlington Community Food Pantry are reminding the public the program also needs their donations in the months ahead. Run by the Burlington nonprofit People Helping People, the pantry is open twice a month, providing nonperishable staples as well as meat, eggs, cheese, and produce free to income-eligible households from its building at 10 St. Mark’s Road. “During November and December, everyone has a spirit of giving and generosity. Once the holidays are over, the spirit of giving tends to diminish significantly,” Janet Fitzgerald, a board member of People Helping People, said by e-mail. She urged businesses and residents to consider stepping up their food and cash donations to keep the pantry shelves full through the winter months. For more information on how to donate, go to peoplehelpingpeopleinc.org. People Helping People also runs the Holiday Program, which this year provided holiday gifts to 73 families with children. Donors selected the gifts using a Wish Tree the group placed at the Burlington Mall. end of story marker
