WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — A Spencer man charged with killing his wife’s twin sister has been ordered held without bail after pleading not guilty to murder.
Authorities say Steven West killed 20-year-old Alyssa Haden in October. Haden lived in the same apartment as the 21-year-old West, his wife, and their child. She was found dead in the apartment by her brother after she failed to show up for work at a supermarket.
West was initially charged with hampering the police investigation because the body had been moved.
Charges were upgraded upon further investigation.
Authorities did not disclose a motive at West’s arraignment Thursday but said Haden died of ‘‘compression to the face, neck and chest.’’
The Telegram & Gazette (http://bit.ly/10YwbSl ) reports that West’s lawyer retained the right to seek bail in the future.
