‘‘We have become doughnut snobs,’’ Keren Rhodes said, laughing. ‘‘Our own doughnuts were no longer good enough for us.’’
When the space at the Amherst Carriage Shops became available, they took it. Formerly a Family Wireless retail store, the location faces North Pleasant Street, and has free parking.
Inside, there are counters, display cases and a handful of seats. Most days the store opens at 6 a.m. and remains open until 11:30 p.m.
The couple is eyeing a Northampton location for a second Glazed Doughnut Shop that could open in late winter.
Even with doughnuts priced at $1.50 each, and $10 a dozen, business has been good, Keren Rhodes said.
‘‘You have to have a fantastic quality to charge what we charge,’’ she said. ‘‘The response is that doughnuts are worth it.’’
