STOW, Mass. (AP) — Fire officials are reminding Massachusetts residents to make sure their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are working in the wake of two fatal house fires.

Spokeswoman Jennifer Mieth of the Department of Fire Services in Stow says a man died Friday in a house fire in Winchendon and another fatal fire was reported early Saturday in Holyoke. She did not release the names of the victims.

Investigators are focusing on accidental causes in each instance, and believe the Holyoke fire started near a woodstove.end of story marker
