DALLAS (AP) — The city of Dallas says it will demolish an apartment complex where Lee Harvey Oswald briefly lived before the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

A city attorney wrote Monday in a letter to the property’s owner that the building will be torn down after asbestos testing. The letter says demolition will begin immediately after the testing, though a date has not been set.

The city won a court order in May requiring Jane Bryant to tear down the uninhabited 10-unit, two-story apartment complex built in 1925. However, the city says Bryant failed to act in the allotted time and that allowed the structure to become a ‘‘nuisance.’’

Lee Harvey and Marina Oswald lived in the building from November 1962 until March 1963.
