SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Springfield police say a man arrested after allegedly stabbing a taxi driver and stealing his cab is also a suspect in the death of his own mother just hours earlier.

Police say 41-year-old Luis Rosa was arrested Monday morning after flipping the taxi cab he had allegedly stolen after stabbing the 25-year-old driver. The driver required treatment for a cut on his shoulder.

Police determined Rosa was a suspect in the death of 57-year-old Norma Perez, who was found dead in her apartment by relatives just before 5 p.m. Sunday. Relatives forced their way into the home after being unable to contact Perez.

Police say Perez was Rosa’s mother.

Rosa is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Springfield District Court on charges including murder and armed carjacking.end of story marker
