BOSTON (AP) — The state is launching a new effort to reach out to Spanish and Portuguese speaking communities as it seeks to expand health care coverage across the state.

The Massachusetts Health Connector is teaming up with the advocacy group Health Care for All to launch the public outreach campaign targeted to small businesses, individuals, and families.

Organizers say the six-week initiative will include public events, a public relations and advertising campaign aimed at Spanish and Portuguese speaking communities, and the door-to-door distribution of educational materials.

Organizers say they are particularly hoping to connect with local small business owners to encourage them to offer insurance to workers.

They say many of those owners want to provide coverage, but are unaware of their options under the state’s landmark 2006 health care law.end of story marker
