Deputy Chief Robert Dyer, a member of the Braintree Fire Department since 1975, will serve as interim fire chief while the town looks for a permanent replacement. Interviews with five internal candidates have been ongoing since early January to replace current Chief Kevin Murphy, who announced in November that he will retire in January. According to Peter Morin, chief of operations and staff, Dyer will be in his new position for a few weeks while the candidates are whittled down. “We’ve completed interviews with each of the candidates for the chief’s position, and the mayor will be meeting with each of them over the next few days,” Morin said Tuesday.  “He will make a decision on who to identify as finalists and call them back and then make a final decision.”
