Two proposed expenditures from the Community Preservation Fund will come before the annual Town Meeting in May for approval. The Community Preservation Committee recently voted to recommend the appropriations, according to Steven Sadwick, the town’s community development director. The first, proposed by the Planning Board, is for $7,500 to restore the Wamesit Indian sculpture along Route 38 (Main Street) that was created in the early 1990s by Mico Kaufman, an internationally known sculptor and Tewksbury resident. The sculpture is in a park that will be upgraded using a $25,000 donation from Walmart. The other appropriation is for $35,000 to study the feasibility of developing a rail trail for bicycling and walking, and ways to connect it to other regional trails. The study was requested by a residents group that is promoting the creation of a recreational trail in Tewksbury, according to Sadwick, who said there are three abandoned railroad rights of way in town.
