Following a unanimous School Committee vote, Dracut officials are taking steps to close Parker Avenue Elementary School by the end of the school year in June. Superintendent Steven Stone said the school’s teachers will be reassigned within the district, and students will move to one of the other three elementary schools in town. Of the four current elementary schools, Parker Avenue is the smallest, serving grades 1 through 3 and having a projected enrollment of 70 students for the 2013-2014 school year. By closing the school, town officials hope to save approximately $39,000 per year in utility costs.end of story marker
