LENOX, Mass. (AP) — An event at late author Edith Wharton’s former home will mark the week of what would have been the Pulitzer Prize winner’s 151st birthday.
On Saturday afternoon, officials at The Mount will host a celebration that will include free admission, guided tours, cake and a scavenger hunt for children.
Wharton bought the 113-acre property in Lenox in 1902 and designed its house and gardens.
It is designated as a national historic landmark.
The author of works including ‘‘Ethan Frome’’ and ‘‘The Age of Innocence,’’ Wharton wrote her best-selling book ‘‘The House of Mirth’’ at the estate.
She was the first woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for fiction.
