Major crime decreased in town for the second year in a row, according to the 2012 annual report of the Walpole Police Department. Overall the crime rate fell 11 percent, the report said. Despite the decrease, police were busy responding to more than 18,000 incidents, an increase of more than 2,000 from the previous year. Police wrote more than 4,000 traffic citations, primarily for speeding and running stop signs, the report said.end of story marker
