Acting Town Manager Michael Milanoski this month received a raise and a contract extension through the end of 2013, or until the town hires a permanent town manager. Selectmen also increased his salary by $18,000 — to $150,000 a year — effective Jan. 15. Milanoski has held the job since selectmen fired town manager Michael Coughlin in March 2012 after less than six months on the job. Coughlin is suing to get the job back. Selectwoman Martha Gjesteby opposed Milanoski’s new contract, saying she wanted the town to conduct a professional search rather than sticking with Milanoski, a Cohasset resident who has no previous town manager experience. Because Milanoski served on town boards just before he was appointed, he is not eligible for the permanent position unless the rules are changed.
