The town has agreed to pay former Police Chief Mark DeLuca $290,000 to settle a legal dispute. DeLuca, who stepped down as chief in late 2009, sued the town in February 2012, alleging that his contract wasn’t renewed because of his support of a management union. The settlement package consists of $240,000 in severance pay, interest, and $35,000 from the town’s insurer. The agreement must be approved by residents at April Town Meeting. After leaving Duxbury, DeLuca became police chief of Cohasset, where he was placed on administrative leave after complaints that he was abusive to a fellow officer and misused town resources. Last November, he signed a severance deal in which he agreed not to sue Cohasset, while the town agreed to pay him $110,000 for the remainder of his contract.
