BROCKTON, Mass. (AP) — Authorities think they have solved a string of two dozen arsons that have plagued communities south of Boston for months.
A Middleborough man and his stepson were arraigned Thursday following their arrest Wednesday night near a fire in West Bridgewater that investigators say was intentionally set.
Lawyers for 45-year-old Mark Sargent and 23-year-old Jeanmarie Louis pleaded not guilty on their clients’ behalf to several charges. They were held without bail.
Prosecutors allege the pair set fire to an under-construction commercial building in West Bridgewater.
Investigators say the men may be linked to 24 fires in communities including Easton, Halifax, Hanson, Kingston, Middleborough, Plympton, Quincy, Raynham and Weymouth since September. Most have been in unoccupied buildings and there have been no reports of serious injuries.
