BOSTON (AP) — U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch is calling for as many debates as possible in the Democratic primary race to fill John Kerry’s former U.S. Senate seat.

Lynch said Monday he’s already accepted several invitations to debates and forums, including requests from WBZ radio, NECN and Stonehill College.

Fellow Democratic congressman and Senate hopeful Edward Markey is keeping mum on how many debates he'd participate in.

Asked Monday how many debates he'd like to see in the primary, Markey said the field of Democratic candidates is still open.

Lynch is the only other declared Democratic candidate. The primary is scheduled for April 30.

Lynch said when he ran for Congress in 2001, he participated in ‘‘dozens of debates’’ with his Democratic opponents.

He said he hopes to have debates across the state.end of story marker
