LOWELL, Mass. (AP) — Federal officials have scheduled a public meeting in Lowell this week to accept comments on proposed alterations to the historic Pawtucket Dam.

The meeting is being held by the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation.

The project at issue was a plan by Boott Hydropower Inc. to replace a historic dam structural feature with a contemporary treatment to regulate high-water flow at Pawtucket Dam on the Merrimack River. The Pawtucket Dam is within the Lowell Locks and Canals Historic District, a National Historic Landmark.

Written comments in the proposal can be submitted to pdcomments(at)achp.gov

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Lowell National Historical Park’s special events center.end of story marker
