From his garage in Dorset, James Hathaway helps run an organization that helps rid the world of land mines as part of an organization called Clear Path International. In Brattleboro, World Learning employs 185 people who help prepare young people for life in a globally connected world and prepares adults from all over help in the ongoing struggle to end poverty. Those are just two of the nonprofit, nongovernmental organizations that call Vermont home but work across the world in fields as varied as promoting democracy or clean water. Taken together, the organizations are pumping millions of dollars and hundreds if not thousands of jobs into the Vermont economy. Regional Peace Corps recruiter Brian Melman said he thinks many Vermonters are willing to think big with small resources.
