BOSTON (AP) — Lawyers from across the state are planning to converge on the Statehouse to ask lawmakers to support the Massachusetts Trial Court’s budget request for the 2014 fiscal year that begins July 1.
The Massachusetts Bar Association and the Boston Bar Association will host the Court Advocacy Day on Beacon Hill on Thursday.
The groups say the court’s request for more than for $589 million is needed. They describe court budget cuts in recent years as ‘‘devastating.’’
Massachusetts Bar Association President Robert Holloway Jr. said the money will help ensure justice remains available for all Massachusetts residents.
The process of writing the state budget is still in the early stages.
Gov. Deval Patrick has submitted his proposal but Massachusetts House and Senate lawmakers have yet to release their versions.
