BOSTON (AP) — Two companies are competing for Massachusetts’ sole slots parlor license.

Tuesday was the deadline for the companies — Mass Gaming & Entertainment and PPE Casino Resorts — to tell state regulators what type of facility they hope to develop.

The companies hadn’t initially said whether they intended to seek a regional resort casino license or the single slots parlor license allowed by the state’s casino law.

On Tuesday both companies said they were pursuing the slots license. Neither company has said where they want to build their slots parlors.

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission had said it needed the information because it intended to first investigate slots parlor applicants, with an eye toward awarding that license this fall.

The full resort casino licenses aren’t likely to be awarded until early 2014.end of story marker
