Watson, Irving lead Boston U over UMBC 68-59

BALTIMORE (AP) — Maurice Watson Jr. scored 19 points and D.J. Irving added 17 as Boston University topped Maryland-Baltimore County 68-59 for its sixth consecutive victory Saturday night.

Irving opened with a 3-pointer, giving him 1,000 points for his career. Watson added six assists for the Terriers (17-11, 11-4 America East Conference).

Boston began with a 14-4 advantage and led 28-17 at halftime. UMBC shot just 25 percent (6 of 24) before the break and was outscored 16-4 in the paint.

The Retrievers (6-21, 4-10) rebounded to hit 48.1 percent (13 of 27) in the second half, pulling within 44-42 with 8:46 remaining. The Terriers stretched the lead to 56-46 in short order, though, and led by at least seven points over the final 5 minutes.

Boston knocked down 65.2 percent (15 of 23) of its shots in the second half, and made 51 percent (26 of 51) for the game.end of story marker
