The city’s plan to revitalize the Lower Millyard has gained momentum thanks to the support of Governor Deval Patrick’s office, which helped Amesbury gain designation as a Brownfield Support Team community. The designation makes the city eligible for support in cleaning up environmental issues required for the revitalization plan to move forward. This is in addition to a $400,000 grant from the state’s Parkland Acquisitions and Renovations for Communities Program that has been earmarked for construction of the Lower Millyard Heritage Park. The plan also includes construction of a canoe and kayak launch, connecting the park to the Costello Transportation Center, which will make it accessible to the Senior Community Center, and building outdoor recreation space for public use.
