School postpones funding of feasibility study

By a vote of 7-0, the School Committee last Wednesday tabled a proposal to seek $875,000 to fund a feasibility study of a possible Wyman Elementary School building project. According to School Superintendent Mark Donovan, committee members decided to postpone the request until they receive more information on the proposed feasibility study. The Massachusetts School Building Authority last November accepted the Wyman school into is eligibility period, the initial phase in its funding pipeline. Approving funding for a feasibility study is one of the requirements the city must fulfill to advance to the next phase in the funding process, which is to be invited by School Building Authority to undertake the study. The district wants to combine the Wyman and Hurld elementary schools in one new or refurbished building, which would continue the city’s multiyear program of elementary school consolidations.
