The Milton school district’s use of wireless devices is expanding along with government mandates.
2010: Federal Department of Education recommends all students have access to wireless connections in and out of school.
Summer/Fall 2012: Tucker Elementary scores high on fifth-grade MCAS tests and gets a federal grant, which it uses to buy 30 iPads. Limited wireless coverage set up in Tucker and a few other schools.
Fall 2012: Milton’s Wireless Technology Advisory Committee established.
February 2013: Milton Foundation for Education begins fund-raising for full wireless coverage in all schools.
February/March 2013: Wireless infrastructure installed at Tucker Elementary and Milton High.
September 2013: All Milton schools will be fully wireless.
2013-2014: Pilot program for 1-to-1 devices, such as iPads, Kindle Fires, Chromebooks.
2014-2015: Increased presence of 1-to-1 devices in Milton schools.
2015: State PARCC tests, taken fully on computers, to replace or supplement MCAS tests.
