Meet finalists for high school principal

Holliston High School principal Michael Cournoyer and the principal at Westborough High, John Smith, are the finalists for the top job at Hopkinton High School, according to an announcement by the school district. They were chosen after a search conducted by the district’s interim superintendent, Steven Hiersche, and a screening committee made up of administrators, teachers, parents, and a student. Cournoyer was assistant principal at Hopkinton High before taking the Holliston job, and started his career as a high school health teacher in Southbridge. Smith previously served as assistant principal and dean of students at Nashoba Regional High School, and was a social studies teacher at Notre Dame Preparatory School in Fitchburg. The two were interviewed last week by Hiersche and members of the administrative team. A public forum will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Hopkinton High School auditorium to give faculty, staff, and community members a chance to hear a short presentation from each of the finalists, and to ask questions. Smith’s presentation will begin at 7 p.m., and Cournoyer will begin at 7:45 p.m.
