Local graduating high school seniors have until 5 p.m. May 10 to submit a scholarship application to the Holliston Firefighter’s Mutual Relief Association. For more than a decade, local firefighters have provided college scholarships for local students; the association will distribute a total of $5,000 this spring. Last year nine students received help toward college tuition. The applications, which require a personal essay on “community service and volunteer spirit, or a selfless act,’’ will be screened on an anonymous basis. And while the application states that academics are important, “these achievements are not the focus of the committee’s evaluation.” Applications are available through the Fire Department’s website, www.hollistonfire.com.
