NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (AP) — The trial of a Northampton man charged with setting a series of fires in the city in 2009 that resulted in two deaths has been moved.
A judge on Thursday moved the trial of Anthony Baye from Hampshire County to adjacent Hampden County, saying she was ‘‘insecure about maintaining the integrity of the jury.’’
She said since the counties are close, it would not be a great inconvenience.
The 27-year-old Baye has pleaded not guilty to arson and murder charges. Prosecutors say he set a series of fires on Dec. 29, 2009. One house fire spread, killing 81-year-old Paul Yeskie Sr. and his son, 39-year-old Paul Yeskie Jr.
Jury selection is scheduled to start Monday.
Northwestern District Attorney David Sullivan argued against the change of venue.
