Biking spots west of Boston

Here are some of the places to go biking west of Boston.

Dr. Paul Dudley White Bicycle Path

Length: 18-mile round-trip loop between Science Park in Boston and Watertown Square

Parking: Near Herter Park in Allston; limited parking near Embankment Road in Boston, near Daly Rink off Nonantum Road.

Bonuses: Take the North Bank Bridge, which runs under the Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge from Cambridge’s North Point Park to Charlestown’s Paul Revere Park; in Watertown, follow the path along the Charles River past Watertown Square into Waltham.

Cutler Park Reservation

Size: 700 acres

Parking: Lot located off Kendrick Street in Needham

Minuteman Bikeway

Length: 10 miles from Alewife Station in Cambridge to Bedford

Parking: Limited parking in Bedford near Depot Park; in Cambridge at the T’s Alewife Station parking garage and in municipal parking lots in Arlington and Lexington centers.

Bonus: Check out the Narrow Gauge Rail Trail that runs about 3 miles from Loomis Street in Bedford. Also, check out the Fitchburg Cutoff Bike Path, which runs from Alewife Station toward Belmont and the Alewife Greenway.

Nashua River Rail Trail

Length: 11 miles through Ayer, Groton, Pepperell, Dunstable

Parking: Ayer Center, Groton Center, and Dunstable.

Bonus: Commuter rail service from Ayer trail head; especially beautiful during fall foliage season.

Upper Charles Trail

Length: the Upper Charles Trail covers 5.7 miles in Milford, with more sections planned

Parking: Near Louisa Lake in Milford

Bonus: Eventually will connect Milford, Hopkinton, Ashland, Sherborn and Holliston. Some unpaved paths available.
