Quincy public school officials have chosen two teachers to take on athletic director duties previously held by Jim Rendle, who is retiring as director. According to Superintendent Richard DeCristofaro, Quincy High math teacher Patrick Lane and North Quincy High English teacher Michael Joyce will work together to do the job. “These experienced educators will assume the athletic director responsibilities at their respective high schools in addition to teaching three sections in their subject area,” DeCristofaro said. “They will also work together to facilitate athletics programs at the middle school level.” DeCristofaro noted that both teachers already had experience in school athletics. Joyce coached boys’ lacrosse and acted as site supervisor for boys’ and girls’ basketball. Lane has been the wrestling coach since 2004. “Through their roles as teachers and coaches, both Mr. Joyce and Mr. Lane have developed a rapport with students and staff throughout the high schools,” DeCristofaro said. Splitting responsibility for the position is new for Quincy public schools, but administrators hope it will better integrate the athletic director job into each high school.
