John A. Moretti, named interim superintendent of schools on June 13, will begin his term Monday, after the resignation of Superintendent of Schools Susan Cote takes effect today. Cote resigned in January, less than a year after receiving a three-year contract from the School Committee. Moretti, a Harwich resident, was the superintendent of the Mansfield schools for 10 years and was superintendent in Norwood for about a year until abruptly quitting during a School Committee meeting in September 2009. Moretti’s contract with East Bridgewater runs through June 30, 2014, and pays about $140,000. Moretti was unanimously approved by the committee after member Beth Hayes, who headed the search committee that received nine applications, said the incident that led to Moretti’s resignation in Norwood was investigated and that Moretti assured the committee it was a “one-off” situation. Committee members have already begun the search for a new superintendent.
