SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — A Springfield man has pleaded not guilty to murder and gun charges in the fatal shooting of his girlfriend.
Twenty-two-year-old Terrance Brown was arraigned Friday in Springfield District Court in the killing Thursday of 19-year-old Tyshianna Atkins. Brown is held without bail.
The Springfield Republican reports (http://bit.ly/12M6Bjz) a large group of Atkins’ friends and family members attended the arraignment. Court officers ushered the spectators out after an outburst from one man at the end of the hearing.
Police say Brown shot Atkins in the chest in a Federal Street apartment, then dragged her body outside and left it on the sidewalk.
Brown was arrested at about 8:15 p.m. Thursday, about five hours after Atkins was found. She was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.
It was the city’s 11th homicide this year.
