Police halt check scam

Foxborough police say they stemmed an alleged counterfeit check scam last week with the arrests of three Rhode Island men, including one newly arrived from Liberia. According to a police report, the officers responded to a call of suspicious activity at the Central Street Subway Shop, then discovered the men had allegedly deposited a false check in the ATM at the TD Bank down the street. Police Chief Ed O’Leary praised patrolmen David J. Foscaldo and Shawn S. McKay, as well as Detective Scott S. Hodson, for quick action in the arrests that occurred on Tuesday. The three men have been charged with conspiracy to commit larceny over $250 under false pretenses.
